muros plumbs new heights

Franklin is a leading importer and supplier of exclusive European Plumbing and Bathroomware. An extensive range of products from well-known manufacturers (including Bette, Hansa and Galassia), provide options for any level of specification - from everyday homes through to luxury apartments and large commercial buildings.

Located on the southern fringe of Wellington’s CBD, the recently upgraded showroom on Hopper Street offers Franklin customers an insight into ‘The World’s Most Beautiful Bathroomware’.

Established Auckland Design House, Macintosh Harris Design and Architecture were engaged to design a ‘creative retail display’ that best showcased Franklin’s products within a modern sophisticated setting in keeping with their brand tag-line. The aim was to design a showroom that delivers an engaging opportunity for Franklin’s customers to view and appreciate the quality, design and function of their extensive range of premium brands.

An exposed aggregate concrete texture was sought, however concreting with concreters in a working showroom would add time and mess to a detailed showroom fit-out. Muros Roughcast Concrete wall panels, repainted in an industrial grey, were specified as a tidy option and the ideal contemporary backdrop to showcase and highlight the largely white and stainless-steel coloured Franklin range.

To assist the decision-making process, large samples of Muros Roughcast Concrete slabs were supplied to Franklin and the Macintosh Harris Design team. Muros also provided scope and pricing - for over 50 textured wall panels - based on detailed hand-drawn plans.

In addition to covering perimeter wall space, Muros Wall Panels were installed on multiple wall partitions, beams and columns of varying sizes. Whilst considered a large complex installation job, the 4mm to 18mm deep wall panels were cut to size with ease on-site.

For many Muros installation projects - including Franklin - it is the contractor’s first experience using Muros Wall Panels. With support from Muros (installation video, guidelines and a discussion prior to install), the various panel sections were installed by screwing them in place into the wall substrates. Screw heads were covered and numerous corner joints crafted by the contractor team using mastic (soft putty) to achieve a natural exposed aggregate concrete texture consistent with the panel design. Touch-up painting over the installation joints and screw heads was the final step.

The installation was completed to a very high standard, demonstrating ease of use and versatility to install Muros in and around small wall sections, fittings and fixtures. And installation can be completed quickly with minimal disruption to business.

From small origins out of a small shed in Pukekohe, Franklin’s remains a family-owned business with traditional values but at the forefront of technology and innovation. Applying a similar approach, Muros International continues to innovate with new designs, colours and products. We believe providing the highest quality of product, support and customer satisfaction is crucial to the success of a privately owned company.
