clever conceptual use of muros in melbourne

Success!!! Reaction from first-time specifying Architect on seeing his vision become reality.

Not only was he inspired to line a highly visible reception wall, but extended use of Muros Roughcast Concrete wall panels to cupboard fascia and bespoke reception desk. The new high-profile Melbourne commercial offices were required to convey professionalism and contemporary styling - consistent with the listed company brand and sophisticated client-base.

With a large footprint across the East Coast in affluent suburbs, the firm recently entered the Victorian market.  The fit-out needed to convey their dynamic services offering, in a suitable environment to welcome their high-end clientele.

The Architectural firm selected light grain and smooth timber framed with black, contrasting beautifully against the industrial Muros aggregate concrete. Muros Roughcast Concrete wall panels were utilised in both formats - horizontal and vertical. In a break from convention horizontal wall panels were installed on all sides of the reception desk, including the top. As a practical reception feature wall, the vertical format wall panels were cleverly installed on each of the doors concealing storage cupboards at the rear.

Muros projects involve cutting panels to size and jointing between them to create a seamless finish consistent with the panel style. In the case of Muros Roughcast Concrete the joints are raised ‘broken’ timber form-work lines. It was the first Muros installation by the local Melbourne building firm and the versatility and ease of panel cutting and jointing process was demonstrated by the quality finish achieved. To accentuate the natural roughcast concrete, texture floor-mounted lighting was installed adjacent to the rear cupboard wall.

“To maximise the relief and investment in Muros, we recommend quality lighting - ceiling or floor-mounted - where possible to further highlight the wall texture and accentuate the character it gives to a space,” stated Muros Director, Sejal Blackler.
