Nestled in the heart of the CBD, the landmark former BNZ Tower at 125 Queen Street, Auckland is the subject of a state-of-the-art makeover. Refurbished offices will offer a world-class office tower block, named ‘125Q’,
The multi-million dollar upgrade is a mammoth project involving the demolition/ strip-out of 25 floors. In addition, a full shell refit, new infrastructure services and an architecturally bespoke exterior façade and roof were constructed.
NZ designers, Macintosh Harris, are at the forefront of excellence in commercial office fit-outs and design. They were engaged to fully fit-out two floors as ‘display suites’ for high-end commercial tenants. To appeal to potential top-tier tenants, a variety of lease arrangements and interior fit-out designs were required for selection.
The presence of exposed structures, raw and recycled materials is intended by the Australian-based Architects to create an edgy and contemporary environment. Macintosh Harris capitalised on that underlying theme in Level 5 of 125Q. Further use of raw concrete for fittings, created a novel and innovative application using Muros Wall Panels in the shared workspace.
PANEL DESIGN: Muros Anthracite Concrete Boards
Muros Anthracite Concrete Boards panels were installed around the kitchenette/ bar situated in the centre of the office suite. As a focal point the effect had to be dramatic yet in keeping with the selected colour palettes of copper, rust, and browny tones. As a result, the new ‘anthracite’ coloured panels were selected as the perfect match.
The poured concrete timber form-work wall panels from Muros combined effortlessly with the black office partitions and pendants. Together they created a moody warm amber glow, certainly an enticing breakout area for any would-be office worker.
Furthermore, the practicalities of using a flexible lightweight product such as Muros Wall Panels were inherently beneficial. For instance, durability and transporting the large wall panels to upper levels. Also important was the ability for panels to be cut and jointed at any point.
With inspiration and creativity the applications of Muros Wall Panels in commercial workspaces with a difference are fast becoming endless. For example, Muros is perfectly suited to kitchen islands and splash-backs, reception desks, counter fronts, cavity sliders, entrance and meeting room feature walls and even concealed storage cupboards.
